This year’s big Games Workshop release is Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Saturnine, the next massive boxed set that moves the story of the Horus Heresy forward and introduces new troops, new rules, and new reasons to buy.

What is the release date for Warhammer: THe Horus Heresy Saturnine?

Warhammer: The Horus Heresy Saturnine doesn’t have a confirmed release date, although it is possible to put some clues together and look at Games Workshop’s recent release history.

At the release, after showcasing the chunky boxed set and all that it contains, Games Workshop announced that it would be “launching alongside the new edition of Warhammer: The Horus Heresy in a few weeks’ time.” That was on May 23rd, so we can likely assume a pre-order window in June and a release date in mid-July.

It appears that this is a pretty classic modern launch box for Games Workshop and is likely to represent some of the best value, money-wise, you will see in the range.

Inside the box, you’ll find:

  • 50 plastic Citadel miniatures
  • A 352-page Age of Darkness hardback rulebook
  • A construction guide/first game guide
  • Four reference sheets
  • Three weapon templates (large blast, small blast, flamer template)
  • 21 dice (20 regular ordinary D6s and one scatter dice)
  • A range ruler
  • 40 tactical status and objective tokens
  • A truly impressive transfer sheet comprising 1,172 decals

The models consist of 40 Space Marine Legionaries in MkII Crusade armor, a Legion Centurion in MkII armor, an Araknae Quad Accelerator Platform, six Saturnine Terminators, the Praetor in Saturnine Terminator Armor, and a massive Saturnine Dreadnought.

The main downside, and thing to keep in mind, is that this will see a new set of rules released, and all your old books are about to become obsolete. As such, you’ll be on the hook for all the new books if you do wish to jump into the new edition. There are updated Liber books for Loyalist and Traitor Space Marine Legions, the Mechanicum, the Knights and Titans, and the Solar Auxillia, which will all be released on launch.

Aidan started in the hobby all the way back in 1989 with Hero Quest, quickly getting into Space Crusade, and then on into second edition Warhammer 40,000. Over the years he has played just about everything you can think of, but current favorite are Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone, Horus Heresy, Trench Crusade, and Dungeons and Dragons.
