Paradise – A Wastepunk Boardgame has jumped out at me for a couple of reasons. First, it’s from Italian outfit Mindwork Games, so I am expecting some solid art and miniatures from the game. Secondly, the word Wastepunk does a lot of automatic world-building, letting you know exactly what you will be getting into.
Mostly, I am really interested in small footprint games right now, and a skirmish game that plays like a board game is right up my alley. The game is currently in preview mode on Gamefound, and details are few and far between, but the art sure is striking.
The world has ended and nobody cares anymore. Perhaps it was the hurricanes, the fires, the tsunamis or the epidemics. Maybe it was the acid rains, the earthquakes or that one fire that destroyed the lungs of the world. Breathing was over. Water ran out. And desert came. Today, amidst the desolation, a city arises.
There are currently four factions listed: the fierce, all-female raiders that seem to live in the deep desert around the huge city of Paradise, the Slug Lords who rule Paradise with an iron fist, the violent and cruel White Lizard Cult wish to tear down anything with a semblance of authority, and the Church of Ignition, who plan on cleansing the world of all the freaks.
A brief rules overview hints at a combination of dice and cards being used to move the game along and also lets us know that each faction will consist of four main characters and two henchmen, with alternative miniature activations, which is the best way to run your skirmish game.
You can follow the game now on Gamefound, and back it on June 18, should that take your fancy. I shall definitely be keeping an eye on it.
