It feels like many moons have passed since the Diablo tabletop RPG was first announced, and, to be fair, it was actually all the way back in 2023. That’s bad news for people who think time is moving a bit too fast, but good news for people who want the RPG, as we are close to something finally happening.

The bad news is that the thing that will be happening is a Kickstarter. I am not a huge fan of Kickstarters for games like this, as I feel that a company like Blizzard can just pony up the dough to get this thing developed if they really want it to exist. Developer Glass Cannon Unplugged has certainly delivered before, quite literally, with their Kickstarter games, but I am seeing a similar pattern emerge. Multiple campaigns are being stacked up at the same time, so hopefully the team is not biting off more than they can chew.

The team is promising a 300-page rulebook that will be filled with rules, lore, and worthy art, along with adventures curated by Joe LeFavi, with luminaries such as Graham McNeill, MJ Newman, and Cullen Bunn penning the adventures. According to the Kickstarter page, “The rules are powered by a custom d6 dice pool system from a dream team led by Joe LeFavi (Blade Runner) and GCU’s Przemysław Zub (Dying Light) working alongside Cam Banks (Marvel Heroic Roleplaying), John Harper (Blades in the Dark), Mike Olson (Fate), and Shawn Tomkin (Ironsworn) on the core rules.”

So, I shall remain excited due to the wealth of talent involved, but a little sad that Kickstarter continues to replace the concept of a “proper” product launch.

Aidan started in the hobby all the way back in 1989 with Hero Quest, quickly getting into Space Crusade, and then on into second edition Warhammer 40,000. Over the years he has played just about everything you can think of, but current favorite are Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone, Horus Heresy, Trench Crusade, and Dungeons and Dragons.
