Warhammer Heroes are back, which is great news for folks out there who hate knowing what they will be buying, and much prefer to randomly get stuff in a box instead. Strike Force Variel is the latest “season” of Warhammer Heroes, and features assorted warriors from the Dark Angels Chapter.

Each box will contain one of seven different warriors, each with their own equipment, specialisation, and Kill Team rules card. They are also easy-fit, so no glue is required, which makes them great for younger fans. (Is it odd to attach an element of randomization to a product that appears to be aimed at younger players? Yes, yes it is.)

Stoic Sternguard Sergeant Ramus is joined by Infernus Marine Haroth, Assault Intercessor Maphael, Infiltrator Belath, Intercessor Zeradim and Reiver Nahrden. This elite team is led by a mysterious lieutenant of the Chapter – whose miniature must remain secret for now. Each box will come with a Kill Team datacard for the miniature, with the operative stats, weapons and strategy ploy translated in English, German and Japanese. Collect them all and you have a simple-to-learn streamlined Kill Team designed as the perfect way to get a taste for the game, and able to take to the Killzone against any other team.

Each display box will have eight blind boxes in it, but even if you buy a full display box, there is no guarantee that you will get all seven of the miniatures in the Kill Team, according to Games Workshop.

These guys will be out later this year, but honestly, you can give them a miss. Not only is the randomized selling of them a pain and somewhat predatory, but the sculpts are definitely lacking this time.

Aidan started in the hobby all the way back in 1989 with Hero Quest, quickly getting into Space Crusade, and then on into second edition Warhammer 40,000. Over the years he has played just about everything you can think of, but current favorite are Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone, Horus Heresy, Trench Crusade, and Dungeons and Dragons.
