Critical Role and their publishing arm, Darrington Press, are in the mood to go toe-to-toe with the big leagues with Daggerheart, their entry into the creative and enthralling TTRPG space. To add more meat to future releases, they have announced some serious new talent on the team, with game designers Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford joining them.

“Jeremy and Chris are visionaries,” said Travis Willingham, CEO and Co-founder of Critical Role. “They’ve guided much of this golden age of TTRPG design and philosophy, helping shape the way we play, connect, and imagine together. Their creativity, passion, and heart will only elevate everything we do at Darrington Press, and we couldn’t be more excited for what this means for the Critters and the stories we continue to tell.”

Chris Perkins is best known for his work on Dungeons & Dragons, where he ended his tenure managing teams of designers and editors. He joins Darrington Press as their Creative Director. “Storytelling has always been at the heart of everything I do, and joining Darrington Press feels a bit like coming home,” said Perkins, “I’ve loved being a part of the extended Critical Role family as a regular guest over the years, and I’m beyond excited to help create new worlds full of adventure.”

Jeremy Crawford also spent years at Wizards of the Coast working on Dungeons and Dragons, finishing his time there earlier this year as the Game Director. Crawford will once again step into the role of Game Director with Darrington Press. “I’ve always believed that great games invite everyone to the table, and that’s exactly what excites me about joining Darrington Press,” said Crawford, Game Director of Darrington Press. “This team is passionate, wildly creative, and committed to building welcoming, connected, amazing story-driven experiences—I can’t wait to expand on what Critical Role has already created to develop some really fun and unique games.”

This is a huge win for Darrington Press, who are clearly aiming to take a bite out of a D&D fanbase that is growing more disenchanted with the adventures that WOTC is offering.

I’m looking forward to seeing what the team will bring to our gaming tables next.

Aidan started in the hobby all the way back in 1989 with Hero Quest, quickly getting into Space Crusade, and then on into second edition Warhammer 40,000. Over the years he has played just about everything you can think of, but current favorite are Cyberpunk Red Combat Zone, Horus Heresy, Trench Crusade, and Dungeons and Dragons.
